Two teams of students from our university’s Faculty of Engineering entered the domestic preliminary round of the 2025 International Innovation Contest (iCAN’2025), held in Sendai on Sunday, April 13th.
One team presented a system that uses swarm drones to quickly locate disaster victims during emergencies and was awarded the Mayor of Sendai Special Award. Note: iCAN (International Nano and Micro Application Contest) is an international manufacturing contest for students using MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems), such as sensors used in electrical and mechanical interactions.

Comment from Project Team Leader, Arthur Koo (3rd Year Engineering Student)
I feel truly grateful that our team received the Sendai Mayor’s Award. I am proud of how each team member gave their best in preparing for this competition.
This achievement was not just the result of our hard work and perseverance—it was also made possible by the support of our professors, friends, and everyone around us. I am sincerely thankful to have had such amazing teammates, mentors, and a supportive environment throughout this project.
I hope that our Sky ResQ project can inspire others to keep innovating and make a positive impact on society.
