Admissions Policy
One of the founding principles of Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) is that education should foster “first-class graduates capable of identifying and resolving issues critical to leading society into the future.” To this end, KUAS seeks applicants who understand the scope of subjects taught by the Faculty or Department of their choice and who desire to deepen their knowledge, further their skills, and acquire the education necessary to make positive contributions to global society. In particular, applicants should:
- have already acquired the basic knowledge and skills necessary for their university studies, at high school or an equivalent institution;
- be able to consider, critically evaluate, and express their opinions on topics related to disciplines such as science, culture, society, nature, and health;
- possess a strong interest in education and technology as well as a desire to learn independently;
- be capable of working with people of diverse backgrounds to acquire new knowledge and skills; and
- desire to acquire an international education and to improve their linguistic skills in English, among other languages.
Faculty of Engineering
Educational Objective: The Faculty of Engineering will develop students who acquire basic knowledge in the fields of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, grasp the essence of things, and acquire the ability to think logically. Additionally, the Faculty’s goal is for students to be able to identify problems based on the needs of society from a global perspective and effectively make use of specialized skills to solve these problems.
The Faculty of Engineering seeks applicants who feel motivated by our mission and objectives. Applicants are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of mathematics and physics at the high school level, the ability to think about those subjects logically, and to have basic English communication skills. In particular, students should:
- already possess the basic knowledge and skills required to study engineering at the university level;
- be able to consider, evaluate, and express their opinions on topics related to engineering;
- be highly motivated to develop critical thinking skills, and possess a strong interest in engineering;
- be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds, and tackle complicated issues across multiple disciplines; and
- desire to improve their language abilities, and to function as a global citizen.
Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences
Educational Objective: The Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences will develop students who, in the fields of life sciences, food, the environment, and agriculture, are able to think flexibly, consider events from multiple perspectives and make accurate judgments. Graduates should be able to investigate issues from multiple perspectives, be leaders in problem solving, and contribute to the improvement of people’s lives and the development of society.
To promote student development in line with the educational objective, the Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences seeks students who have a strong motivation to study independently, and who are equipped with the basic academic abilities acquired through their high school curriculum. The Faculty is looking for students with the ability to effectively utilize those basic academic abilities, in addition to possessing strong communication skills.

Department of Environmental and Bioresource Sciences
Educational Objective: The Department of Environmental and Bioresource Sciences will bring up students who, through the arrangement of courses in the various fields of environmental and bioresource sciences, are equipped with the scientific and technological capabilities related to biodiversity and material cycles in ecosystems such as forests, water environments, and environments in the region, techniques for producing agricultural products that take advantage of the characteristics of the region while caring for the environment, as well as the skills to consider insights from multiple perspectives with an open mind, judge accurately, and seek out the truth. Through specialized courses and a final research project, the Department will develop problem-solving leaders as well as graduates who will contribute to the improvement of people’s lives and the development of human society.
To promote student development in line with the educational objective, the Department of Environmental and Bioresource Sciences seeks students who have passion and a sense of purpose, who have a strong foundation in their high school subjects, who have the language abilities to clearly express their thoughts, the motivation to face a variety of challenges, a proactive attitude toward all activities, and the skills to communicate effectively and understand the viewpoints of others.

Department of Applied Biological Sciences
Educational Objective: The Department of Applied Biological Sciences will develop students who, through the arrangement of courses in the various fields of applied biology, are equipped with skills in green biotechnology that are in harmony with the environment. Graduates will also be expected to acquire the skills necessary to consider insights from multiple perspectives with an open mind, judge accurately, and seek out the truth. Through specialized courses and a final research project, the Department will develop problem-solving leaders as well as graduates who will contribute to the improvement of people’s lives and the development of human society.
To promote student development in line with the educational objective, the Department of Applied Biological Sciences seeks students who have passion and a sense of purpose, who have a strong foundation in their high school subjects, who have the language abilities to clearly express their thoughts, the motivation to face a variety of challenges, a proactive attitude toward all activities, and the skills to communicate effectively and understand the viewpoints of others.

Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (Global Business and Economics Program)
Educational Objective: The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration will develop business persons who possess a comprehensive understanding of economics and business administration, as well as law. In addition, the Faculty’s goal is to foster this knowledge through practical experience.
To promote student development in line with the educational objective, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration seeks students who understand this objective, who can study with strong motivation and independence, and who have acquired basic academic abilities through their high school curriculum. The Faculty is looking for students with the ability to utilize those basic academic abilities effectively, in addition to possessing strong communication skills.

Educational Objective: The Department of Business Administration will bring up students with broad perspectives who can play an active role in society with the comprehensive education necessary for business persons acquired through systematic study centered around business management, including economics and law courses.
To promote student development in line with the educational objective, the Department of Business Administration seeks students who have passion and a sense of purpose, who have a strong foundation in their high school subjects, who have the language abilities to clearly express their thoughts, the motivation to face a variety of challenges, a proactive attitude toward all activities, and the skills to communicate effectively and understand the viewpoints of others.
