On March 14, 2023, Director General of the Swiss Consulate in Osaka Felix Messner paid a courtesy visit to KUAS Uzumasa Campus and partook in discussions with President Masafumi Maeda and Executive Vice President Toshihiko Koseki.

At the meeting, President Maeda and Executive Vice President Koseki started by introducing the reforms and initiatives being pursued by KUAS. Then Director General Messner spoke about the Consulate General of Switzerland’s promotion of collaboration with educational institutions and companies, the support of start-ups in Switzerland, and participation in Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai. The three then engaged in an opinion exchange regarding those topics, among many other matters. Director General Messner showed particular interest in KUAS Faculty of Engineering, where instruction is conducted entirely in English, as well as the overseas and domestic internship programs offered to students.

Following his discussion with President Maeda and Vice President Koseki, Director General Messner visited a laboratory at the Graduate School of Engineering, where he met with Junior Associate Professor Dr. Sajid Nisar and observed a robot demonstration by a graduate student. He then visited the Science Plaza to have a look at the 3D printers and machine tools, followed by a meeting with Dean of Faculty of Engineering Osamu Tabata.

Dean Tabata stated, “In KUAS, students come from 40 countries around the world, including Switzerland, and learning in such a diverse environment has a positive impact on them.” Messner commented, “Visiting Kyoto University of Advanced Science was an eye-opening experience. Here in Kyoto, where many universities gather, it was surprising to learn of such a university taking on new challenges.”Dean Tabata (left) and Consulate General Messner (right)
