KUAS Holds Spring 2023 Entrance Ceremony
Apr 12, 2023
General“I entered KUAS because I wanted to learn the nature of food professionally and make use of my experience in people’s lives. I will study hard and live a fulfilling student life so that I can grow as a human being.” This was the powerful oath taken by Sora Kawamoto, a student of the Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences and representative of the KUAS 2023 freshman class.
The 2023 KUAS Entrance Ceremony was held on April 3, 2023 at Miyako Messe in Kyoto City. For the first time in 4 years, we were able to have parents and guardians attend the event. Preparing a gorgeous atmosphere for the occasion, KUAS welcomed about 900 freshmen who were overflowing with hope. The faculty and staff greeted the newcomers with many rounds of hearty applause.
In tune with an elegant performance by the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, the newly enrolled graduates and undergraduates of each department hit the red carpet and entered the venue. The ceremony began in a peaceful atmosphere, and after all in attendance were seated, President Masafumi Maeda stepped onto the spotlighted stage to deliver his welcoming address.
Delivering his address in a free-talk style without a podium, President Maeda presented various projects starting this fiscal year and stated, “We are prepared to help you to acquire the strength to stand face-to-face with your dreams. Enjoy your university life and learn extensively,” showing his confidence in KUAS’ reception of students. He also invited students to consult with faculty and staff if they have any concerns and concluded by saying, “KUAS gives its attention to each student. It is you who makes the future.”
Following the introductions of the Executive Vice President and deans of each faculty, Chairman Shigenobu Nagamori delivered a congratulatory address, saying, “You all made a very good choice by entering Kyoto University of Advanced Science. Your hard work will never betray you. Giving effort in these next four years will lead to success in your life.” He ended his address with warm words of encouragement to the students, urging them to, “Have confidence and live a wonderful student life.”
After receiving a welcoming address from the President and a congratulatory address from the Chairman, faculty representatives Koe Akiyama from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Ayana Tani from the Faculty of Humanities, Miki Sasaki from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and Ryo Isogawa from the Faculty of Engineering lined up to take an oath on behalf of the freshman class. In addition, representing this year’s graduate student class, Maria Iwasaki from the Graduate School of Economics, Takao Nogi from the Graduate School of Business Administration, Murasaki Nara from the Graduate School of Human Culture, and Ryota Fukuda from the Graduate School of Engineering lined up to take their oath. Sana Yamaguchi from the Graduate School of Bioenvironmental Sciences stated that she would, “Pursue the knowledge and skills needed to maintain and develop the bioenvironment, and aim to become a specialist with a broad perspective.”
In the second session of the ceremony, “What do we do at KUAS? A Talk with the Deans and President Maeda”, the President and deans from each faculty changed from formal attire to smart casual and took the stage. After the current students introduced their studies and life at KUAS, President Maeda and the deans fielded questions from the new students and provided them with meaningful advice. The new students presented a variety of questions and comments, including concerns and enthusiasm about their university life that is about to begin and their desire to focus on it. The session ended with various students standing up and offering charismatic statements and inquiries.
It was a very exciting event that closed the distance between the faculty and the new students. We hope that the Entrance Ceremony will remain in the memories of the new students and serve as an auspicious start to their new lives.
