Dr. Kazuhiko Ito was born in Abeno Ward, Osaka City, and attended Osaka Prefectural Ikuno High School. Upon high school graduation, he entered the Faculty of Science at Kyushu University and earned his Master’s and Ph.D. in Science at the Kyoto University Graduate School of Science.
Dr. Ito specialized in geophysics (specifically physics of the earth’s interior) and measured the elastic wave velocities of rocks and minerals under high pressure and temperature, developed synthesis methods for large single crystals of minerals and crystals, and conducted lab research to measure their physical properties. Focusing on the importance of theory in lab research, he seeks to develop modern theoretical physics, and the concepts of modern abstract mathematics on which they are based, into secondary education.
For first-year Faculty of Bioenvironmental Sciences students, Dr. Ito is responsible for lectures, exercises, and labs based on fundamental mathematics, physics, and earth science. For second-year students, he is in charge of lectures, exercises, and labs based on applied numerical processing, mathematics, environmental physics, and environmental earth science.
His hobby is mountain exploration and staying in tents, mainly in the Japanese Alps. His motto is ‘If it can be accomplished by one’s strength, it should be.’

To understand the laws of nature, it is necessary to consider “What are the essential key elements?”. To do so, Dr. Ito examines the contents of each field of hierarchical structure– physical theory, which is the basis of understanding, mathematical theory, which is the basis of physical theory, and mathematical logic, which is the basis of mathematical theory– by comparing classical and modern viewpoints. Specifically, he examines how to build a rigorous discussion based on a complete understanding of the precise theory and logic of each field of hierarchical structure, and how to elucidate the interrelationship between these theories and logic.
