  • Dr. Hiroko Shimizu is a Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and Graduate School of Business Administration at KUAS. Her main research interests are Economic Development, Global Business Strategies and Supply Chains, Trade Policy and Environmental Policy.
    She holds a Master’s in International Public Policy and a Ph.D. degree in Business Management. She has more than 20 years of experience in working and studying in China, U.S., and Canada. Dr. Shimizu has been a research fellow of the Institute for Policy Studies at Johns Hopkins University and many other institutions.

    Dr. Shimizu has published in a wide range of academic disciplines and outlets including the Wall Street Journal and Nature. In her co-authored book The Locavore’s Dilemma: In Praise of the 10,000-mile Diet, she made a case against “local production for local consumption (Chisanchisho)”, and demystified the benefits of the globalized modern agriculture and transportation.
