“底冷え”と言われる京都の冬本番を迎えようとしています。とても寒いですが、この季節を楽しんでほしいと思っています。
皆さんは、この年末年始にどんな計画を立てていますか。日ごろ会えない人と会ったり、楽しいイベントの予定がある方もいるでしょう。レポートやテストの準備をする人もいるでしょう。大切なこの時期を充実して過ごしていただきたいと思います。ただ、未だ新型コロナウイルス感染はおさまらず、季節性インフルエンザ感染の同時流行も懸念されています。基本的な感染防止行動、つまり三密（密閉、密集、密接）を避けること、マスクの適切な着用、手洗いの徹底をお願いします。
今、私たちは変化の激しい「時代」を迎えています。コロナ禍は3年目となり、今年2月にはロシアによるウクライナ侵攻が始まるなど、世界規模での変化が起きています。清水寺の今年の漢字には「戦」が選ばれました。本学では、ウクライナからの学生や客員研究員が多く学んでいます。一日も早くウクライナに平和が来ることを心から願っています。
そして、新しい年が、学生の皆さんにとってすばらしい年になるよう、祈念いたします。

New Year’s Greetings
Season’s greetings!
This year’s “real” winter is about to begin in Kyoto. It is getting very cold, but I hope you are enjoying the season.
I wonder what your plans are for this holiday season. Some of you may have plans to meet people you can’t see on a regular basis, or attend fun events. Others may have reports to write or tests to prepare for. The end of the year is always a momentous season, and I hope you enjoy it. At the same time, COVID-19 is still a risk, and the simultaneous spread of influenza is also a concern. I ask that everyone please take preventative actions to avoid infection: Avoid the “3 Cs” (Closed spaces, Crowded places, and Close-contact settings), wear a mask, and wash your hands thoroughly.
We are living in a time of unprecedented change. The COVID pandemic is now in its third year, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began this spring will mean more challenges ahead. The monks of Kiyomizu Temple chose “Battle” (戦) as the Chinese character to represent this year, 2022. To the students of Ukraine who are now studying and researching at our university, I pray that peace may come to Ukraine as soon as possible.
